Two girls with bassoons and big attitudes.

Is an electric bassoon duo who captures the spirit of rock music and proves that two girls with bassoons and big attitudes can ROCK!

BASSOON

Susan Durnin‘s extremely diverse taste in music genres is reflected in her wide range of solo repertoire, ensembles and musical adaptability. In 2012, she explored the world of electronics performing at the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium and hasn’t looked back. A founding member of Das Fagott Mannschaft, the world’s first electric bassoon coverband, she continues to explore electric bassoon possibilities.

Susan has been principal bassoonist of numerous orchestras including Toronto Sinfonietta. Since moving to Toronto, she has performed in many ensembles regularly throughout the GTA. Susan holds an Artist Diploma in Orchestral Studies from the Glenn Gould School and a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance from the University of Manitoba. In her spare time, Susan enjoys a good cup of coffee, knitting and rad tunes from the 80s.

BASSOON

Catherine Magowan is an ex-flute player who saw the light and switched to the bassoon (or went to the dark side, depending on your point of view). She has been principal bassoonist with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra since 2002 and gigs regularly throughout Ontario. She is a founding member of the world’s first electric bassoon coverband, Das Fagott Mannschaft, and her comedy duo, Professor Quack & Grunt, has been entertaining audiences at cabarets and festivals.

Catherine was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award for the opera Giiwedin, which she co-composed with Spy Dénommé-Welch, and is currently completing her second opera while working on various commissions and projects. She regularly conducts workshops and presents at conferences on topics such as music, arts and education.
